Box Score

UTICA, N.Y. (October 12, 2013) – The Utica College men's soccer team dropped out of first place in the Empire 8 Conference after a 3-0 loss to visiting and nationally-ranked No. 11 Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.  Both squads headed into the contest with unblemished records of 2-0 in conference play. UC's record moved to 6-7 overall and 2-1 in the E8, while the Ducks improved to 10-1-1 and 3-0 in the conference.

Stevens' Carson Pryor tallied two first half goals and Chris Renna added an insurance tally in the 64th minute to help lift the Ducks into sole possession of first place in the E8.  Pryor's first goal of the game came just 1:06 into the contest, off an assist from Edward Rupp.  Pryor added his team-best ninth goal of the season in the 25th minute to help Stevens take a 2-0 advantage into halftime.

Utica goalie Anthony Caruso (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow) stopped eight shots in the loss, while Greg Silvestro (West Sayville, NY/Connetquot) added a team-best two shots for the Pioneers.

UC was outshot 15-5 on the afternoon, while both teams earned five corner kick opportunities.

The Pioneers wrap up a three game home stand on Tuesday night when they host Wells College in a non-conference affair at Gaetano.  The contest is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.  The Pioneers will then hit the road for three straight contests before wrapping up the regular season back at home against Elmira in a pivotal Empire 8 Conference match on Nov. 2nd.
