Kevin McAllister (Boxford, MA/Masconomet Regional) netted two goals and sophomore
Greg Silvestro (West Sayville, NY/Connetquot) added an insurance tally in the final minutes to help the Utica College men's soccer team earn a 3-0 victory over visiting Wells College Saturday night at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
The Pioneers (7-7) finished their three-game home stand with a 2-1 record and they have now won four of their last six games. UC will hit the road for three straight games before returning home on Saturday, November 2 for a key Empire 8 Conference game against Elmira to close out regular season play.
After a scoreless first half of play, the Pioneers got on the board in the 53rd minute when McAllister finished a penalty kick past Wells goalie Michael Sciotti to give UC a 1-0 advantage.
Less than seven minutes later McAllister tallied his second of the night and team-best sixth goal of the year after drilling a shot off the top cross bar and into the net from 20 yards out. Classmate
Jeffrey Cupka (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional) earned the assist on the Pioneers' second goal.
Sophomore
Greg Silvestro (West Sayville, NY/Connetquot) ripped home the third and final goal of the contest in the 88th minute to secure the 3-0 victory. Silvestro scored his fifth of the year, from 25 yards out, off a nice assist from freshman
Brandon Horton (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool).
Utica outshot the visitors 22-3 on the afternoon and goalie
Anthony Caruso (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow) stopped one shot in his third shutout of the year.
Sciotti made two saves in net for the Express (7-4-2).
The Pioneers will travel to Empire 8 Conference foe Ithaca College on Saturday to square off against the Bombers in a pivotal matchup at 1 p.m.
