Field Hockey Continues to Cruise; UC Downs W&J 1-0

Box Score Utica, NY (10/16/13)- The Utica College field hockey team stretched its winning streak to five games as it downed Empire 8 opponent Washington & Jefferson College 1-0 Saturday morning at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium. Junior Alaina Stojkovski (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) extended her scoring streak to five games as she scored the lone goal of the contest.

After a scoreless first half, Stojkovski netted her ninth goal of the season, unassisted, as she ran down toward the left side of the net and put a low shot in the opposite side of the net to give UC the 1-0 lead. That was all the Pioneers needed as sophomore Kells Casey (Sandwich, MA/Kimball Union Academy) shut the door, making four saves for her conference-best sixth shutout of the season.

Kira Bunker made seven saves in the loss as the Presidents dropped to 11-6 (2-4 Empire 8) on the season. UC improves to 13-3 overall and 6-1 in the E8. The Pioneers return home Wednesday as they host Oneonta State. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
