UC Field Hockey to Host Brockport Wednesday

Utica, NY (10/28/13) - The Utica College field hockey team takes on Oneonta State Wednesday in the second game of a three-game home stand to close out the regular season. Game time is set for 4 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: UC stretched its winning streak to five games as it downed Empire 8 opponent Washington & Jefferson College 1-0 on Saturday… Junior Alaina Stojkovski (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) extended her scoring streak to five games as she scored the lone goal of the contest… That was all the Pioneers needed as sophomore Kells Casey (Sandwich, MA/Kimball Union Academy) shut the door for her conference-best sixth shutout of the season.

PIONEERS ARE ROLLING: The Pioneers have now won five straight games, topping RPI, Hartwick, Elmira, Hamilton, and W&J during the last three weeks… Alaina Stojkovski (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) has been instrumental in the winning streak with a goal in each game… UC has the longest current winning streak in the conference.

NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT: As a team the Pioneers rank 16th nationally in goals against average (1.05) and tenth nationally in save percentage (.833) … The Pioneers also rank 15th nationally in scoring marging, defeating teams by an average of 2.53 goals per game … Sophomore goalie Kells Casey (Sandwich, MA/Kimball Union Academy) ranks eigth in Division III with a save percentage of .845 … Junior Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) ranks 44th nationally with an average of .93 points per game. 

STOJKOVSKI LIGHTING IT UP: Alaina Stojkovski (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) is playing her best ball of the season… She has lit the lamp in each of the last five games… She ranks eighth in the Empire 8 in goals (nine) and is ninth in points (23)… She is proving to be a valuable asset to this Pioneer team as she is also tied for second in the conference with four game-winning goals.

HOME SWEET HOME: The Pioneers are in the midst of a three-game home stand… After Wednesday's contest against Oneonta, UC wraps up the regular season against Brockport… The Pioneers have played five home games to this point and have an impressive 4-1 mark at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium… UC has won four straight games at home since losing its opener to the University of Rochester on Sept. 8.

PREPARING FOR PLAYOFFS: The Pioneers are locked in as the No. 2 seed for the Empire 8 Conference tournament… UC will look to get completely healthy and sharpen up for playoffs in the next two games… Stevens Institute of Technology earned the top seed and hosting rights for the conference tournament on Nov. 9 and 10… UC was No. 2 in last year's conference tournament when it took down rival Stevens in the Empire 8 Championship.

DYNAMIC DUO: Opponents have their hands full when they line up opposite Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) and Hannah Mackey (Locke, NY/Moravia Central)… The talented Pioneers rank second and third in the Empire 8 in goals, respectively … Mackey is tied for second in the conference in game-winning goals with Stojkovski… Steele-Norton has added three game-winners for UC this season.

CASEY CONTINUES DOMINANCE: Kells Casey (Sandwich, MA/Kimball Union Academy) was recently named the Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week… She has only allowed three goals in the last five games… She ranks first in the conference in goals against average (1.326), save percentage (.845) and her six shutouts on the season are also good for first in the conference.

SCOUTING ONEONTA: Oneonta State enters the contest at 11-6 overall and 3-3 in the SUNY conference… The Red Dragons are coming off of a 3-0 victory of Oswego State on Sunday… Oneonta has won five of its last seven games… The Red Dragons have a dynamic duo of their own in forwards Andrea Day (14g, 2a) and Kelcy Forbragd (13g, 3a)… They rank seventh and eighth respectively in points per game in the SUNYAC… Oneonta sports arguably the top two goaltenders in the SUNYAC in Tess Tracy and Krista Servedio… Tracy ranks first in goals against average while Servedio ranks first in save percentage.

RECENT MEETINGS: Last year Oneonta took care of the Pioneers, pulling out the 3-1 victory … Steele Norton scored the lone goal for UC to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead … Oneonta took over, scoring three straight while not allowing UC to get a shot on net during the second half … The Pioneers are 3-4 against Oneonta dating back to 2005.

LOOKING AHEAD: Utica wraps up the regular season against Brockport Saturday at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
