Utica, NY (10/9/2013) – 13 different Pioneers scored at least one point as the Utica College men's soccer team topped visiting Cazenovia College 10-1 Wednesday night. The nine goal advantage for UC was the Pioneers' most lopsided victory since a 12-0 win over the Wildcats in 1997. The Pioneers, winners of three of their last four games, evened their record at 6-6 on the year.
UC's
Jeffrey Cupka (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional),
Greg Silvestro (West Sayville, NY/Connetquot) and
Raine Owens (Pine Plains, NY/Stissing Mt. ) each totaled one goal and one assist, while senior
Kevin McAllister (Boxford, MA/Masconomet Regional) added two points on two assists to round out the multiple point efforts for the Pioneers. UC outshot the visiting Wildcats 36-6 on the afternoon and earned an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Shane Ruffing (Rochester, NY/Westborough) and Cupka each tallied a goal in the first 23 minutes of the contest to push the Pioneers to an early 5-0 lead. Cazenovia's Ryan Hanehan tallied his team-best ninth goal of the season to crack the scoring column for the Wildcats in the 33rd minute, but Utica's
David Gould (Frankfort, NY/Frankfort-Schuyler) answered with a goal to give the Pioneers a 6-1 lead at the half.
Dennis Runikera (Gaithersburg, MD/Northwood), Owens,
John Burke (Commack. NY/Commack) and
Brandon Horton (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) chipped in with a goal apiece in the second half to close out the scoring on the evening.
Zack Doyle (West Hurley, NY/Onteora) and
Justin Schray (Oxford, NY/Oxford) both added an assist in the victory.
UC's
David Abdou (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) got the nod in net for the Pioneers and he made one save in the victory, while Andrew Schultz stopped 14 shots in net for the visitors.
The Pioneers return to Empire 8 Conference action on Saturday when they host nationally-ranked No. 11 Stevens Institute of Technology in a pivotal conference contest at Gaetano Stadium. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Both teams sit atop the conference standings with 2-0 records in E8 play.
