Field Hockey Lands Four on All-Region Team

Utica, NY (11/18/13)- For the second year in a row, four members of the Utica College field hockey team were named to the Longstreth / NFHCA Division III North Atlantic All-Region team, released Monday.  Juniors Hannah Mackey (Locke, NY/Moravia Central) and Alaina Stojkovski (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) as well as sophomore Kells Casey (Sandwich, MA/Kimball Union Academy) were first-team selections, while Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) was named to the second-team.

Mackey is making her third straight appearance on the All-Region team; including the second year in a row she was named first-team All-Region.  Mackey, also a first-team All-Conference selection, collected a career-best 46 points including a career-high 19 goals.  She finished first in the conference in goals and second in points.  She was also named the Empire 8 Tournament MVP after scoring two goals and adding one assist in the conference championship game.  Her 119 points and 48 goals rank second all-time at UC.

Stojkovski is making her second consecutive appearance on the All-Region team after collecting 28 points, including a career-high 11 goals.  Stojkovski was also named first-team All-Conference.  The 2012 Empire 8 Tournament MVP was also selected to the All-Tournament team this season after netting two goals in the final game to lift the Pioneers to a 5-2 win and their second E8 title in as many years.  She also had a conference-best five game winning goals.

Casey moves up to first-team All-Region after being named to the second-team last year.  The sophomore was a first-team All-Conference Selection this season after finishing first in the E8 with a 1.57 goals-against average, a .804 save percentage, and seven shutouts.  She set new school records for wins (17) and shutouts in a season.  Her 27 career wins are tied with 2012 graduate Monica Storms for second-most all-time.

This is also the third straight year that Steele-Norton has earned All-Region status after being named the North Atlantic Region Player of the Year last season.  Steele-Norton followed up her stellar sophomore campaign by finishing third in the Empire 8 in points (41) and goals (18), and second in points per game (2.11).  This season, she broke the college's all-time goals (60) and points scored (128) records.

The Pioneers wrapped up their season with an overall record of 17-5, en route to their second straight Empire 8 Conference Championship, automatic NCAA Tournament birth, and NCAA "sweet sixteen" appearance.  UC also set new program records for wins (17), points (205), goals (77), and assists (49) in a season.
