Field Hockey Cruises to 7-1 Victory on "Senior Day"

Box Score Utica, NY (11/2/13)- Five different players scored to help the Utica College field hockey team cruise to a 7-1 victory over SUNY Brockport in non-conference action at Charles A. Gaetano stadium Saturday afternoon.

Junior Hannah Mackey (Locke, NY/Moravia Central) netted two goals and classmate Angela Charles (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) added her fourth of the year to put Utica up 3-0 at halftime. Adriana Surprenant (Utica, NY/New York Mills Jr-Sr High) continued the momentum into the second half as she netted back-to-back goals less than five minutes apart to pad the Pioneer lead. Juniors Nikki Kieffer (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) and Chasity Eckert (Afton, NY/Afton Central) hooked up for the Pioneers' final two tallies. Eckert fed Kieffer for her first goal of the year, while Kieffer returned the favor just three minutes later.

Lindsay James (Newry, ME/Tellstar Regional), Colleen Dowling (Fairport, NY/Fairport), Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School), and Angela Charles (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) also added one assist each on the day. Brockport's Jackie Massoni spoiled the shutout with 1:41 left to play as she put in a rebound off Jessica's Blind's shot.

Sophomore Kells Casey (Sandwich, MA/Kimball Union Academy) had six saves in the win, while Lindsay Farrell and Kayla Kulzer combined for seven saves for the Golden Eagles. With two goals, Hannah Mackey (Locke, NY/Moravia Central) moved into second place on UC's career scoring list with 114 points. She sits seven points behind classmate Louise-Steele-Norton on the all-time list.

Before the game, the Pioneers recognized their five seniors, Lindsay James (Newry, ME/Tellstar Regional), Meghan Morreale (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro), Jessica Franklin (Delevan, NY/Pioneer), Ally Sanders (Endicott, NY/Maine Endwell), and Marissa Davendonis (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) who have helped UC to a 48-27 record over the last four seasons.

The Pioneers cap off the regular season with a 14-4 record. They travel to Hoboken, NJ next weekend for the Empire 8 Conference Tournament as the number two seed.
