Utica, NY (12/13/13)- Sophomore
Kells Casey (Sandwich, MA/Kimball Union Academy) of the Utica College field hockey team was named to the ECAC Mid-Atlantic All-Star first team, released Thursday.
Casey was also one of three players to earn first team All-Region status earlier this year after leading the Pioneers to their second straight NCAA "sweet sixteen" appearance. She finished first in the E8 with a 1.57 goals-against average, a .804 save percentage, and seven shutouts. Casey also set new school records for wins (17) and shutouts in a season. Her 27 career wins are tied with 2012 graduate Monica Storms for second-most all-time.
The Pioneers wrapped up their season with an overall record of 17-5, en route to their second straight Empire 8 Conference Championship and automatic NCAA Tournament birth. UC also set new program records for wins (17), points (205), goals (77), and assists (49) in a season. UC bids farewell to five seniors, including
Lindsay James (Newry, ME/Tellstar Regional),
Meghan Morreale (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro),
Jessica Franklin (Delevan, NY/Pioneer),
Ally Sanders (Endicott, NY/Maine Endwell), and
Marissa Davendonis (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central).
