Box Score Elmira 79, Utica 75- Final (OT)

Elmira, NY (2/16/13)- Freshman Mary Miceli (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) scored 26 points, but it was not enough as the Utica College women's basketball team dropped its second straight game, to Elmira College 79-75 in overtime Saturday afternoon.

Elmira jumped out to a 21-10 lead in the first 9:14 of the contest behind five 3-point baskets.  Miceli netted seven straight points over the next three minutes to cut the lead to four, but the Soaring Eagles fought back.  A lay up from sophomore Marissa Kahane (Sayville, NY/Sayville) with 26 seconds cut the Elmira lead to 32-28 at the half.

The Pioneers battled back and regained the lead at 5:28 of the second half as Miceli netted a layup and foul shot to take a 56-54 lead.  The following five minutes were back-and-forth with each team trying to control the lead.  A layup by Elmira's Jessica Zoltowski with 24 seconds left gave the Soaring Eagles a 64-61 lead, but a three-pointer by freshman Racquel Baudanza (Staten Island, NY/New Dorp) with five seconds left sent the game to  overtime.  Baudanza once again hit a three-pointer to tie the game in the final 22 seconds of the extra period, but Elmira was able to use a layup and two free throws to take the lead for good.

Along with Miceli, Racquel Baudanza (Staten Island, NY/New Dorp) had 14 points, while seniors Alyssa Filkins (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill) and Meghan Fiore (Epping, NH/Epping) each netted 11 points.  Filkins also had four assists and four steals and Fiore brought down eight rebounds.  Junior Bridget Greenwald (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills), sophomore Marissa Kahane (Sayville, NY/Sayville), and freshman Kelcei Edmonds (Pittsburgh, PA/Shady Side Academy) combined for 13 points for UC.

The Pioneers fall to 12-13 on the year and 7-7 in the Empire 8.  UC ended up in a three-way tie with St. John Fisher and Nazareth for the fourth and final spot in the E8 playoffs, losing in the tie-breaker to Fisher.

UC will graduate four seniors, including Meghan Fiore (Epping, NH/Epping), Brittany Baudanza (Staten Island, NY/Staten Island Tech), Alyssa Filkins (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill), and Megan Browning (Epping, NH/Epping)
