UC Women's Lax Doubles Up Oswego; Pioneers Improve to 5-1

Utica 10, Oswego 5 - Women's Lacrosse Final

Utica, NY (3/26/13)- The Utica College women's lacrosse team improved to 5-1 on the season as it downed visiting Oswego State, 10-5 at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium Tuesday afternoon. 

The Lakers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first four minutes of the contest, before UC responded to score the next seven goals in the first half.  Sophomore Morgan DuPont (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) cut the Oswego lead to one with an unassisted tally at 23:09.  Classmate Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) scored a free position goal at 19:00 to even the score.  Just over a minute later, Vanessa Maines (Boxborough, MA/Acton-Boxborough Regional) fed Patricia Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) for her 11th of the season.  Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) added two more free position goals and Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) and Courtney Wheeler (Ava, NY/Rome Free Academy) each found the back of the net once to send UC into the half with a 7-2 lead. 

Oswego fought back in the second half, scoring three of the game's next four goals.  With 7:30 left in regulation, Danielle Citro netted her fifth tally of the season to bring the Lakers within three, but tallies from DuPont and Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) sealed the victory for the Pioneers. 

Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) had a game-high four goals, while DuPont netted two of her own.  Steele-Norton, Patricia Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville), Wheeler, and Samantha Gebler (Vestal, NY/Vestal) each netted one goal on the day.  Wheeler and Julia Primps (Ossining, NY/Ossining) also added one assist.

Stephanie Belanger (Lewiston, ME/Lewiston) made eight saves in the win, while Lauren Marois and Nikki Greco combined for eight save in net for Oswego.

Utica returns to action Saturday as it opens Empire 8 Conference play against Hartwick.  Game time is set for 1 p.m.
