Saratoga Springs, NY (3/6/13)- The Utica College women's lacrosse team won its second straight game Wednesday afternoon by defeating host Skidmore University, 11-7.  Freshman Courtney Wheeler (Ava, NY/Rome Free Academy) led the way for UC netting three goals and adding an assist while sophomore Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) also scored three goals in the win.

The Pioneers, now 2-0 for the first time in program history, return home Saturday as they host SUNY Potsdam.  Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Gaetano Stadium.

Patricia Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) got things started early as she scored just 1:10 into the contest.  Sophomore Samantha Gebler (Vestal, NY/Vestal) assisted on Kane's fifth of the year.  Just three minutes later, Wheeler gave UC a two-point cushion on an un assisted tally.  The Thoroughbreds responded at 24:14 as Emma Harris scored on a free position.

Gebler added a goal of her own at 21:30, but the Mustangs struck back just 48 seconds later.  The Pioneers went on to get two goals from sophomore Morgan DuPont (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park), and one goal each from Mary Morgan Marafino (Monroe, NY/Central Square) and Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) to head into the half with a 7-3 lead.

Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) and Wheeler each added two goals in the second half to seal the victory.

Senior Stephanie Belanger (Lewiston, ME/Lewiston) had seven saves to pick up her second win on the season, while Skidmore's Shelby Witheford made five saves in the loss.
