UC T & F Treks to Moravian for the Coach P Open

Utica, NY (4-12-13) – The Utica College men and women track and field teams head to Bethlehem, PA Friday for the Coach P. Open hosted by Moravian College ... The competition will be held at the Timothy Breidegam Track on Moravian's campus … The events are set to start at 4 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Men Place 9th at U of R: The men Pioneers placed ninth at the University of Rochester Alumni Invitational Saturday … Sophomore Shane Ruffing had Utica's only first place finish, while senior Sylvester Owusu-Afriyie placed second in the 100 meter dash (11.23) … Ruffing earned ten points in the men's triple jump with a final jump of 13.18 meters … Senior Hunter Padgett placed third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (10:05.94) to pick up six points … UC earned fourth place finished from freshman Christian Lesperance and the 4x800 relay team … Lesperance ran the 400 meter dash in a time of 51.28, while Kyle Cairns , Morgan Payne, Eric Stevens and Tyler Hayes combined for a time of 8:55.44.

Women Earn 7th Place at Alumni Invite: The UC women placed seventh out of 14 teams at the University of Rochester Alumni Invitational Saturday … Freshman Sarah Wiatr (Poland, NY/West Canada Valley) led the way with first, second and fourth place finishes in three different events … In the 100-meter dash, Waitr was narrowly edged out of the lead and finished second with a time of 13.19. … Anea Isom (Salem, NY/Salem) was fourth (13.34), and Jess Ciraulo (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) (13.41) finished in sixth place … In the 200-meter dash, Anastasia Bowden (Monticello, NY/Monticello) was Utica's top finisher, placing fourth (26.75) and Wiatr came in eighth (27.30) … Jaime Balloni earned eighth place in the 800-meter run (2:23.95), and Ciraulo picked up second place in the 100-meter hurdles (15.31) … Chelsea Bogino (Farmington, NY/Canandaigua Academy) finished in sixth place in the long jump with a final leap of 4.84 meters, before Wiatr capped off the day finishing first in the triple jump (10.87 meters) … Bogino also placed fourth, just .62 meters shy of Wiatr's mark.

Back in Action: Following this weekend's competition, the Pioneers return to action next Saturday, April 20th for the 2013 Empire 8 Outdoor Championships … The championships will be hosted by Nazareth College with the events to be held at Golden Flyer Stadium … The competition is set to begin at 10:30 a.m.

Road Ahead: UC has four more competitions scheduled following the conference championships before the ECAC Championships in Springfield, MA on May 16th … The Pioneers then head to St. John Fisher on April 27th, Ithaca on April 28th for the NYSCTC Championships, Canton, NY on May 3rd for the NYSCTC Multi's and then their final regular season meet on May 11th at Oneonta State.
