Â
Track Qualifiers: The Pioneer women have secured qualification for seven different athletes in six different events this upcoming week.Â
Â
Some long-distance leaders cemented their spot at the AARTFC Championships, with
Catherine Manna (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) and
Marlo Townsend (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) each notching a spot in the 5,000m. Manna met the qualifying time thanks to a 17:59.71 at the recent Empire 8 Championships, while Townsend took her spot due to an 18:32.65 at the Hamilton College Invitational.
Jade Dening (Remsen, NY/Remsen) also got the nod to compete in the 800m, with the veteran using a 2:21.30 finish earlier this year to get a lane in the race.Â
Â
Field Qualifiers: A plethora of Pioneers will take place in a few field events this week, with
Hannah Allison (Herkimer, NY/Herkimer) set to compete in the high jump,
Nora Devitt (Beverly, MA/Beverly) set to try the triple jump, and
Riley King (Oswego, NY/Oswego) locked in for the hammer throw.
Â
Allison notched her spot in the high jump thanks to a 1.63m leap at the Utica Pioneer Spring Invite way back in early April. The local product secured her spot early on in the season, and will look to make some noise in Massachusetts.
Â
Devitt clinched her participation in the triple jump after an 11.29m leap at the RPI Capital District Classic.
Â
King rounds out the field competitors after a 48.23 hammer toss at the Cortland Classic, and will look for another solid outing at Williams this week.
Â
Competing in all-of-the-above will be
Stefania Grimaldi (Poland, NY/Poland Central), who marked her entry to the Heptathlon after her Empire 8 Championship performance in the event, where she took home the gold thanks to a 3,868-point showing. The sophomore will test her mettle against the best in the region this week, kicking off the event with the 100m hurdles at 12:30 PM tomorrow afternoon.
