Educate Continues to Rack Up Awards

| By:
Utica, NY (4/19/13) - Sophomore forward Louie Educate (Chicago, IL/Aberdeen (NAHL)), of the Utica men's hockey team, continues to add to his impressive resume as he recently was named to the 2013 D3hockey.com Men's All-American First Team.

This achievement marks the first player in program history to be named to the First-Team D3hockey.com Men's All- American squad.  The awards are voted on by the Sports Information Directors at Division III institutions that sponsor men's ice hockey. The All-American teams are comprised of the top vote-getters within their respective regions.

Educate, in his first year at UC, has become one of the most decorated athletes in a single season based on all the awards that he has been received this year. To go along with the D3hockey.com First Team honors, Educate has also been named American Hockey Association CCM All-American First-Team and selected to the 2013 All-USCHO men's hockey team as he totaled 36 points on 18 goals and 18 assists, good enough for an average of 1.29 points per game.  He was also named the ECAC Men's West Player of the Year this past season after leading the conference in scoring with 19 points.

Educates' 18 goals this season put him just one goal shy of tying the schools single season record set by All-American Tim Coffman (Elverson, PA/Laconia (AJHL)) back in 2010. This past season, Educate registered an impressive nine multi-point outings, including six games with at least three points.  He also tallied a career-high six points on four goals and two assists in the Pioneers' 11-2 win over Elmira this past season. The Pioneers went 12-2-1 in games when Educate scored at least one point this past season.

The Nichols College transfer has helped Utica elevate its Hockey program to an all-time high after a record setting season. Utica made its first trip to the NCAA Division III tournament this year and also finished this past season with its highest ranking in program history landing No. 5 in the final edition of the USCHO.com National Poll.

UC finished the record season with an overall record of 21-6-1 overall including an 11-3-1 mark in the competitive ECAC West and an impressive 14-3 home ledger.
