Utica, NY (4-26-13) – The Utica College men's tennis team dropped its fifth-straight match Friday afternoon to visiting Empire 8 rival Alfred University, 8-1, at the UC Tennis Courts. Freshman
Matt Rogers (East Syracuse, NY/Bishop Ludden) and junior
Phil Pham (Herkimer, NY/Herkimer) led UC with victories in singles competition.
Rogers won 7-6 and 6-2 in the fifth set while Pham took the win in the third set (7-6, 4-6, 10-8). Utica battled in doubles play however lost 8-5, 8-6 and 9-7. Rogers and Pham teamed up in the final
The Pioneers fall to 3-6 overall including a 0-6 mark in the E8 and remain home Sunday as they welcome Hartwick College for its final league contest. The match is set for 1 p.m. Alfred wraps up its season with a 5-10 overall record and a 2-5 ledger in league play.
