Box Score Oswego, NY (9/14/2013) – The Utica College volleyball team lost both matches on day two at the Oswego State Invitational. UC fell to SUNYIT 3-0 in the morning contest before losing to Marywood University 3-1 in match two.
The Wildcats won in straight games by scores of 25-19, 25-11 and 26-24, en route to a 4-0 weekend and the tournament title.
Brandi Blaszak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) led UC with eight kills, five blocks and two digs, while
Cassandra Manzer (Portcrane, NY/Chenango Valley) chipped in with six kills of her own. Sophomore
Lora Allen (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) added a team-best 12 assists and
Madison Bayer (Islip Terrace, NY/East Islip) helped out with four kills.
Laura Homer-Gunther (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) added two kills, while
Liz Sacco (Franklin, Mass. /Franklin) and
Chelsea Lauria (Erieville, NY/Cazenovia) pitched in with one a piece for the Pioneers.
Deasia Goodson killed a game-high nine balls for the Wildcats as Kaitlyn Harrington added eight of her own. Taviot Jackowski recorded a game-high 25 assists for the Wildcats.
In the second match of the day, UC jumped out to an early lead, winning the first set 25-13, before losing the next three (22-25, 14-25, 22-25).
Laura Homer-Gunther (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) had a team-best 13 kills, followed by
Brandi Blaszak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) (11) and
Cassandra Manzer (Portcrane, NY/Chenango Valley) (10).
Briona Enny (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) had ten digs on the day while
Alexis Lyon (Prospect, NY/Holland Patent) had seven.
UC moves to 4-5 on the year, while Marywood improves to 6-3. The Pioneers return to action Wednesday as they host Oswego State. Game time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
