Colleen Dowling (Fairport, NY/Fairport) scored the lone goal for Utica, while classmate
Kells Casey (Sandwich, MA/Kimball Union Academy) made 11 saves in the effort.
Skidmore opened the scoring at 25:28 as Sam Skott scored her third of the year on a deflection off Kelly Blackhurst's shot. Dowling evened the score at 52:59 with her third goal of the year, assisted by
Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School).
Despite pressure from both teams, neither could score the go-ahead, forcing overtime. Just 5:20 into the extra frame, Skidmore's Jenn Hanks scored off a penalty corner to give the Thoroughbreds the victory. Blackhurst added her second assist of the day on the game-winner.
The Thoroughbreds outshot UC 22-4 on the day and held an 18-3 advantage on penalty corners. Skidmore improves to 7-1 on the season, while the Pioneers drop to 6-2. UC returns to action Saturday as it hosts Nazareth College for an Empire 8 Conference showdown at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
