Volleyball Earns Split on Day Two of Wildcat Classic

Utica, NY (9/28/13)- The Utica College volleyball team earned another split on the second day of the Wildcat Classic at SUNYIT.  The Pioneers had a thrilling come-from-behind victory over D'Youville College in five sets, before falling to Alfred State College, 3-0.

Against D'Youville, the Pioneers found themselves in a 2-0 hole after losing the first two sets 25-16 and 25-14, respectively.  However, UC fought its way back, winning the next three by scores of 25-11, 25-19, and 15-11. 

UC dropped its second match to Alfred State 3-0 (20-25, 17-25, 18,25).  Cassandra Manzer (Portcrane, NY/Chenango Valley) had eight kills, while Lora Allen (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) put in 13 assists and Briona Enny (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) collected a season-high 27 digs. Freshman Diamond DeVane (Ridge, NY/Longwood) had an impressive day for the Pioneers, totaling a career-high 15 digs and adding four kills, while Alexis Lyon (Prospect, NY/Holland Patent) chipped in with seven digs.  Sophomore Laura Homer-Gunther (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) had five kills and two blocks, while Brandi Blaszak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) totaled five kills and one block. 

The Pioneers return to action Tuesday, Oct. 8 as they host SUNY Cobleskill for their Dig Pink Game.  The non-conference contest is scheduled for 7 p.m.
