Box Score Utica, NY (9/4/13)- The Utica College volleyball team got off to a hot start as it downed visiting Cazenovia College 3-0 in its season opener Wednesday night at the Clark Athletic Center.

The Pioneers jumped out to an early lead in the first set, cruising to a 25-14 victory.  UC continued its momentum into the second stanza, downing the Wildcats 25-16, before dominating the third set by a score of 25-4. 

Juniors Madison Bayer (Islip Terrace, NY/East Islip) and Briona Enny (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) led the way for UC.  Bayer had  six kills and added 10 digs, while Enny led the squad with 11 digs and contributed one service ace.  Sophomore Lora Allen (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) had a team-best 17 assists, while fresman Carly Lonczak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) chipped in with four of her own.  Freshman Brandi Blaszak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) owned the net, tallying a game-high eight kills.

The Pioneers return to action Saturday as they travel to Aurora, NY for the Wells College Invitational.  UC will face the host team at 10 a.m. before taking on local rival SUNYIT at 12 p.m.
