Utica, NY (9/6/2013) – The Utica College men's soccer team looks to snap a three-game season opening slide when the Pioneers host Baruch College (New York, NY) in a non-conference contest on the turf at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium Saturday at 6 p.m.

Back on Track: The Pioneers, who were picked to finish third in the Empire 8 Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, hope to get back on track this weekend and pick up their first win of the 2013 season … The Pioneers 0-3 start could easily be attributed to the fact that they played the defending national champions in Messiah, a very good Franklin & Marshall squad, and an up and coming undefeated SUNYIT team on Wednesday … The Pioneers have lost two of their first three games by just one goal …  UC has not lost their first four games of the season since 2002.

Last Time Out:  SUNYIT senior Diego Montaleza broke a scoreless tie with 6:26 remaining in the contest off a free kick from 25 yards out to lift the visiting Wildcats to a 1-0 victory over Utica College on the turf at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium Wednesday evening … Utica outshot SUNYIT 13-3 … UC had two excellent scoring opportunities in the contest but SUNYIT goalie Malick Faye stood on his head and finished the night with four saves for the Wildcats.

McAllister Just Missing:  Senior Kevin McAllister (Boxford, MA/Masconomet Regional), UC's top returning scorer from a year ago, has a team-high nine shots this season but he has been unable to connect … Two of his nine shots have been on goal and it's only a matter of time before he breaks his scoreless streak.

Who's Gonna Get the Goal?: The Pioneers have been held scoreless for the last 268+ minutes … Senior Jonathon Peterson (Bedford, NH/New Hampton) opened UC's season with a bang when he took a long ball from Jeffrey Cupka (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional) and netted the Pioneers lone goal of the season just 1:04 into the season-opener against No. 1 Messiah.

Scouting Baruch: Baruch is currently 1-1 overall with a tight 3-2 loss at the hands of New York University in its season-opener, and a convincing 5-2 win over Farmingdale on Wednesday its home opener … The Bearcats are currently led by Victor Tlepshev, who has a team-best six points in two games played … Two other Bearcats have scored two goals this year including Oren Kozolowski and Kevin Romero … The Bearcats have seven international student-athletes from Japan, Mexico, El Salvador, England, Israel and Turkmenistan.

Looking Ahead:  The Pioneers will hit the road for their next two contests against host Wells College (5 p.m.) on Wednesday and Bard College (2 p.m.) next Saturday … UC will then return home for a three game set  against Hobart, Empire 8 foe Nazareth and Plattsburgh.
