Box Score 2 Aurora, NY (9/7/13)- The Utica College volleyball team split a pair of matches versus Wells College and SUNYIT in a tri-match hosted by Wells College on Saturday. UC defeated Wells 3-2 before falling to cross town rival, SUNYIT 3-0.
Brandi Blaszak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) and
Cassandra Manzer (Portcrane, NY/Chenango Valley) led the way for UC in the first match. Blaszak had a team-high 14 kills and five blocks, while Manzer tallied 13 kills and one block.
Madison Bayer (Islip Terrace, NY/East Islip) also had an impressive showing, registering nine kills, five blocks, and four digs. Setters
Lora Allen (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) and
Chelsea Lauria (Erieville, NY/Cazenovia) cchipped in with 14 and 13 assists, respectively.
In the second match of the day,
Laura Homer-Gunther (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) and Blaszak each had six kills, while Briona ENny had a team-best five digs. However, it was not enough as the SUNYIT Wildcats handed the Pioneers their first loss of the season.
Utica moves to 2-1 so far on the year. The Pioneers will look to get back on track Monday as they travel to SUNY Cobleskill for a non-conference match. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
