Utica, NY (9/8/13)- The Utica College field hockey team suffered its first loss of the season as it fell to nationally-ranked No. 18 University of Rochester 3-0 Sunday afternoon at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
The Yellow Jackets got on the board just 2:48 into the contest as freshman Callie Fisher netted her first collegiate goal assisted by Lindsay Randall. Fisher deflected the ball in front of the net and over the head of Utica net minder
Kells Casey (Sandwich, MA/Kimball Union Academy). Eight minutes later, U of R struck again as sophomore Michelle Relin tallied her third of the season, unassisted. Rochester capped off the scoring at 32:25 as Nicole Cerza controlled a deflection in front of the net and shot into the gaping cage for her third of the season.
The Pioneers threatened in the second half but were unable to solve Yellow Jacket goalie Madison Wagner. Casey and Wagner each ended up with 12 saves on the day.
Utica will return to action Wednesday as it travels to nearby Clinton, NY for a match up with Hamilton College. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
