Utica, NY (1/13/14) - The Utica college men's basketball team will head to Rochester, NY this weekend to face Empire 8 Conference opponents Nazareth College and St. John Fisher College. UC plays Nazareth on Friday at 6p.m. and at St. John Fisher Saturday at 2 p.m.

Last Game: UC went 1-1 at home this past weekend, with a loss to Elmira on Saturday (53-49) and a win over Ithaca Sunday (87-73)…… Two players for the Pioneers finished Saturday's game against Elmira in double figures, junior point guard
Aaron Nevins (Buffalo, NY/Canisius) and junior
Marty Felicia (Phoenix, NY/Phoenix) both netted 11 points…… In Sundays win over Ithaca, four players ended the game in double figures with Nevins leading the team with 19 points…. Senior
Chris Jeffers (Albany, NY/Bishop Maginn) added 14 points…. Felicia added 12 points and junior
Ian Henderson (Chateaugay, NY/Chateaugay) chipped in with 11 points.
Division III Team Stats: As a team, the Pioneers are nationally ranked 74th out of 410 in scoring offense, 81st in total rebounds, 125th in field-goal percentage, and 134th in both free throw attempts and three-point field goal percentage.
Hot Hands: In division III two UC players are nationally ranked, Nevins and Jeffers……Nevins is 82nd in the country in points per game and is 127th in assists per game……. Jeffers is 24th nationally in rebounds per game.
As a Pioneer: In his third year at UC, Nevins has 240 points to start the season (last season he finished with 285) and is 251 points away from 1,000…… He also has 51 assists on the season and has a total of 192 on his career….. He has played in 63 games, while starting 62…….. Jeffers has 131 rebounds in 13 games thus far and has 431 career rebounds.
Stats against Nazareth: The Pioneers went 1-1 against Nazareth last season…… Losing at Nazareth by eight points (89-81)…… Nevins had 12 points while
Marion Lewis (Bronx, NY/Lehman) added 10 points and seven rebounds….. UC then won a close game at home (74-69)……. Nevins netted 16 points while Jeffers chipped in 16 points and 11 rebounds….. Nevins played all 40 minutes of the game……. The team finished the contest shooting 22-for-26 (84.6%) from the free throw line.
Golden Flyers Report: Nazareth is off to an 8-5 record and is 2-2 in the E8…… The Golden Flyers are coming off a home win, 86-76, over conference opponent Hartwick……. In the conference, the team is ranked first in field goal percentage (47.2), second in free throw percentage (71.0) and in scoring margin (7.8), and third in scoring offense (79.1)……… The player to watch out for is senior Brad Ford…….. Ford is first in rebounding (10.3) and in minutes played (36.7), fourth in scoring (18.5), ninth in steals per game (1.5), and tenth in free throw percentage (75.7).

Jeffers netted 10 points.
Cardinals Report: St. John Fisher is off to an 8-5 start and is 3-1 in the conference…… The Cardinals are coming off a home win, 80-67, over conference opponent Stevens Institute of Technology…… In the E8, the team is ranked first in scoring defense (66.8), third in rebounding defense, averaging 34.1, and fifth in field goal percentage (44.5)…….. The player to watch out for is freshmen Keegan Ryan….. Ryan is off to an impressive start as a Cardinal, as he is ranked fifth in rebounding (8.5 a game) and field goal percentage (50.0), seventh in free throw percentage (78.0), and tenth in scoring (13.5) in the conference.
Looking Ahead: Utica will return home next weekend as it squares off against conference opponents, Hartwick College (Friday at 6 p.m.) and Stevens Institute of Technology (Saturday at 2 p.m.).
