Box Score Canton, NY (1/3/14)- The Utica College women's hockey team scored one goal in each period to extend its winning streak to seven games as it topped host SUNY Canton, 3-2 Friday afternoon. Three different players scored on the day for the Pioneers.
Sophomore
Morgan Reed (Fort Myers, FL/Cushing Academy) opened the scoring at 11:09 of the first period, with her fourth of the year, assisted by
Nicole Schwartz (Danville, CA/San Jose Sharks) and
Megan Myers (Las Vegas, NV/LA Selects). The Kangaroos scored the equalizer just over six minutes into the second period, however Myers regained the Utica lead with less than one minute remaining in the period with her team-leading eighth goal of the season. Reed and
Nicole Kieffer (Rome, NY/Lysander Lightning) assisted on the tally.
Once again the Roos fought back, as Jessica Kistabish tallied her eighth of the season, unassisted at 1:59 of the third period. A late power play led to game-winner as
Kelsey Dowdall (Smiths Falls, ONT/Nepean) scored with 1:29 remaining to give the Pioneers the upper hand.
Utica outshot Canton 49-16 on the day and held a 5-1 advantage in power plays. Junior
Marissa McNamara (Camillus, NY/Lysander Lightning) had 14 saves in her second start of the season, while her counterpart, Shayna Dominique made 46 saves in the loss. Myers extended her scoring streak to nine games and the Pioneers improve to 7-2 on the season, while Canton drops to 4-8-2.
Both teams return to action Saturday as they come to Utica for the finale of the home-and-home series. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
