ONEONTA, NY (1-4-13) – The Utica College women's basketball team lost to Empire 8 foe Hartwick, 71-59, Saturday at the Lambros Arena. Senior
Bridget Greenwald (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) posted a double-double with a game-high 17 rebounds along with 14 points to pace the Pioneers.
UC falls to 4-6 overall and 0-2 in the Empire 8 while the Hawks move to 8-2 on the season and 2-0 in conference action. Utica returns home for a three-game home stand beginning Friday Jan. 10th to welcome Elmira College for an 8 p.m. tip. Hartwick heads to Poughkeepsie, NY Tuesday to face Vassar College (6 p.m.).
The Pioneers played tough over the first 13 minutes of play as they trailed by just two points, 26-24, with 6:57 left in the first half. It was then that the home Hawks began their push using a 12-1 run to close out the half with a 13 point lead, 38-25. Hartwick shot 42.4% from the floor and a better 43.8% from downtown compared to Utica's 33.3% from the floor and 37.5% from beyond the arc.
Utica held its own in the second half outscoring the Hawks 34-33 but could not overcome the first half deficit as they lost its second straight conference game in as many days.

Mary Miceli (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) had a team-high 19 points on 6-of-12 shooting including 4-from-7 from downtown.
Kelsey Cowell (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) and
Samantha Stayer (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone) combined for 18 points and 11 boards in the defeat.
Wick's Maria Foglia had a game-high 22 points while Brittney Dumas recorded a double-double on 16 points and 10 grabs in the victory.
