Box Score Utica, NY (1/4/14)- The Utica College women's hockey team used four unanswered goals to top visiting SUNY Canton 4-1 Saturday night en route to the Pioneers' eighth consecutive win. Senior
Megan Myers (Las Vegas, NV/LA Selects) moved her scoring streak to ten games as she netted two goals, including the game-winner, to pace the Pioneers.
Canton jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 6:57 of the first period as Jessica Kistabish tallied her team-leading ninth goal of the year, unassisted. Kistabish picked up a loose puck and skated down the right side. As she cut to the middle, she put a shot over the shoulder of Utica goalie
Jennifer Hamel (Ithaca, NY/Northwood School) to give the Roos the 1-0 lead.
The Pioneers rebounded in the second period, with goals from Myers and
Kelsey Dowdall (Smiths Falls, ONT/Nepean). UC added two more goals in the third period, one from Myers and one from sophomore
Mackenzie Roy (Clinton, NY/Clinton) to seal the victory.
Sophomore
Morgan Reed (Fort Myers, FL/Cushing Academy) had two assists and
Janessa Haasbeek (Grand Forks, ND/Canadian International Hockey Academy),
Meredith Tice (Hershey, PA/Washington Pride), and
Kristen Beckman (Arnold, MD/Northwood School) each had one helper. Hamel made 21 saves for her sixth win of the season, while her counterpart, Shayna Dominique had 38 saves.
The Pioneers (8-2, 4-2 ECAC West) return to action next weekend with two non-conference games against Manhattanville College and Norwich University. Saturday UC takes on Norwich at 4 p.m. before facing Manhattanville at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
