Houghton, NY (10/13/14)- The Utica College women's soccer team dropped a nail biter Monday evening as it fell to Houghton College, 1-0 in Empire 8 Conference action. Freshman
Keri Berkowitz (Racine, WI/Racine Saint Catherine's) made seven saves in the loss.
Following a deadlock in the first 45 minutes, Houghton's Stephany Ellison found the back of the net in the 70th minute for her 13th tally of the year. Nikki Garns assisted on the play. That proved to be all the home team needed as Highlander goalie Shawna Sprout stopped all four shots on net to pick up her third shutout of the season.
Junior
Mackenzie Roy (Clinton, NY/Clinton) led the Pioneers with two shots on goal, while
Jenna Hughes (Brookfield, NY/Brookfield) and
Amanda Pawlikowski (Vernon, NY/Vernon Verona Sherrill) also fired shots on net.
Utica (4-8-1, 0-4 Empire 8) returns to action Saturday as it hosts Empire 8 foe Alfred University as part of the College's homecoming weekend festivities. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
