Utica, NY (10/16/14) – The Utica College Volleyball teams looks to get back on track as it hits the road for a non-conference weekend set at the Clarkson Tournament. The Pioneers will play Plattsburgh State on Friday at 9 p.m. and SUNY Canton (10 a.m.) and Clarkson University (12 p.m.) on Saturday.
LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers fell to Hamilton College 3-1 in non-conference action on Wednesday… UC jumped out to a 1-0 lead before falling in the next three matches (26-34, 21-14, 21-19)… Junior
Laura Homer-Gunther (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) and freshman
Samantha Hoerning (Farmingville, NY/Sachem East) led UC with nine kills apiece, while
Lora Allen (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) had 26 assists and
Briona Enny (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) had 24 digs.
GETTING THE KILL: Sophomore
Brandi Blaszak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) leads the team with 192 kills and she has also totaled 40 blocks… Freshman
Alaina Wickwire (Towanda, PA/Towanda) is second on the team with 148 kills to go along with her 112 digs.
ASSISTING THE KILL:
Lora Allen (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) is fifth in the conference with 538 assists thus far… On the season Allen has added 50 kills, 21 aces, and 107 digs.
CAN YOU DIG IT: Senior
Briona Enny (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) continues to lead the Pioneers on the defensive end…Enny is third in the conference with 4.33 digs per set, totaling 329 digs on the season.
MEET PLATTSBURGH STATE: The Cardinals (4-12, 0-6 SUNYAC) are in the midst of an eight game losing streak… Maggie Schrantz leads the offensive side of the court with 130 kills. Alongside of Schrantz is teammate Meghan Clifford with 406 assists on the season…The defensive side end is led by Jackie Mariotti with 155 digs… Utica is 0-2 against Plattsburgh in the last five years… Their last meeting was a 3-0 Cardinal victory on Oct. 13, 2012.
MEET SUNY CANTON: The Kangaroos are 16-4 on the season and have won their last 12 games, dating back to a 3-0 win over Utica on Sept. 13… Morgan Bills leads the offense with 166 kills while teammate Machenzie Mynter adds an average of 8.71 assists per game…Robyn Carroll leads the Kangaroo defense with 305 digs.
MEET THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS: Clarkson is 6-1 on their home court and 22-3 overall…The Golden Knights offense is led by Victoria Kirkemo with 279 digs... Not far behind her is teammate Aishvina Arasu with 239 digs… Kristie Shurie has chipped in with 634 assists on the season (10.75 per set)… The defense is led by Evanna Jimenex with 279 digs and Adrienne Walker with 40 blocks.
