Utica, NY (10/21/14) – The Utica College volleyball team looks to get back on track as it takes on crosstown rival SUNY IT Wednesday night. The game is set to start at 7 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: UC failed to pick up a win over the weekend in the Clarkson Tournament … During the first game, Utica put up a fight against Plattsburgh forcing a fifth set but couldn't convert the opportunity … The Pioneers then dropped straight sets against SUNY Canton and Clarkson University.
DIG MACHINE: Senior
Briona Enny (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) is averaging 4.10 digs per set; putting her third in the Empire 8 … Enny's team leading 373 digs ranks fourth in the Empire 8 … She has double digit dig games in all but seven games this season … Her best outing came against Kings College (10/10/14) when she had 26 digs and added a service ace and an assist.
HERE TO ASSIST: Junior
Lora Allen (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) leads Utica with 613 assists; ranking her fifth in the Empire 8 … Allen strung along 14 straight games with double digit assists and then the streak was snapped over the weekend against Clarkson (10/18/14) … Against Medaille College (9/30/14), Allen racked up 40 assists and tacked on two kills and nine digs … Allen also leads the team with 23 service aces.
SPIKING: Sophomore
Brandi Blaszak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) has a team leading 213 kills … Blaszak also leads UC in points with 270.5 and is averaging 2.97 points per set …
Alaina Wickwire (Towanda, PA/Towanda) is second on the team with 156 kills and 178.5 points … Wickwire is averaging 2.08 points per set.
RUBBER MATCH: This will be the third time this season the Pioneers and the Wildcats will face off … The home team has won both times this year … UC beat the Wildcats in straight sets at Harold T. Clark Athletic Center and then traveled to SUNY IT and won only one set.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS: SUNY IT is 15-14 overall and is coming off a tough loss against Lancaster Bible … The Wildcats have three players with over 200 kills; Emma Larson (273), Megan Will (219), and Morgan Eberley (204) … They also have four players with over 200 digs; Erika Reakes (469), Morgan Eberley (304), Emma Larson (273), and Shelby Kostal (213).
NEXT TIME OUT: The Pioneers will host Stevens Institute of Technology Friday night. The Empire 8 matchup will start at 8 p.m.
