Box Score UTICA, NY – The Utica College volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision against visiting Stevens Institute of Technology in Empire 8 Conference action at the Clark Athletic Center Gymnasium on Friday night. Utica was led by seven kills from Brandi Blazek, while freshman
Samantha Hoerning (Farmingville, NY/Sachem East) chipped in with five kills of her own.
Utica's record moved to 9-20 overall and 1-5 in the Empire 8. The Pioneers hosted their annual dig pink night to raise breast cancer awareness and several prizes were raffled off, with all proceeds being donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday when they host St. John Fisher College and Elmira College for an Empire 8 Conference tri-match. The Pioneers will open up against St. John Fisher at 12 p.m. before taking on Elmira College at 5 p.m.
Utica's
Lora Allen (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) registered 18 assists, while
Briona Enny (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) added eight digs.
Laura Homer-Gunther (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) added three kills, one service ace and one block for the Pioneers.
Mary Tobin led the Ducks with 11 kills as they won their sixth straight contest. Stevens, which won by the scores of 25-9, 25-12, 25-14, improved to 25-4 overall and 6-0 in conference play.
