Oneonta, NY (10/29/14)- The nationally ranked No. 20 Utica College field hockey team had its school record 13-game winning streak snapped Wednesday afternoon as it fell to Oneonta, 3-1, in non-conference action.
Senior
Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) scored the lone goal for the Pioneers in the seventh minute, unassisted, for her 13th tally of the season. The goal was Steele-Norton's fifth in as many games. The Pioneers let the lead slip away, however, as the Red Dragons scored three unanswered goals to move to 11-6 on the year. Oneonta's Bailee Barrett scored all three goals for the Red Dragons in the victory.
UC's
Samantha Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) made seven saves in the loss, while her counterpart, Tess Tracy also made seven stops. Each team fire 17 shots on the day, while Oneonta held a slight 8-7 advantage in penalty corners.
Utica drops to 15-2 on the season. The Pioneers return home Saturday for an Empire 8 rubber match against St. John Fisher College, which is also 7-0 in conference play. The winner will take home the E8 regular season title and hosting rights for the conference tournament. Saturday's game is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
