#20 UC Field Hockey Upset at Oneonta

Oneonta, NY (10/29/14)- The nationally ranked No. 20 Utica College field hockey team had its school record 13-game winning streak snapped Wednesday afternoon as it fell to Oneonta, 3-1, in non-conference action.

Senior Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) scored the lone goal for the Pioneers in the seventh minute, unassisted, for her 13th tally of the season.  The goal was Steele-Norton's fifth in as many games.  The Pioneers let the lead slip away, however, as the Red Dragons scored three unanswered goals to move to 11-6 on the year.  Oneonta's Bailee Barrett scored all three goals for the Red Dragons in the victory.

UC's Samantha Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) made seven saves in the loss, while her counterpart, Tess Tracy also made seven stops.  Each team fire 17 shots on the day, while Oneonta held a slight 8-7 advantage in penalty corners.

Utica drops to 15-2 on the season.  The Pioneers return home Saturday for an Empire 8 rubber match against St. John Fisher College, which is also 7-0 in conference play.  The winner will take home the E8 regular season title and hosting rights for the conference tournament.  Saturday's game is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
