Houghton, NY (11/1/14)- The Utica College volleyball team fell in its season finale at the Houghton Tournament Saturday as it dropped both matches to SUNY Cortland and Buffalo State by scores of 3-0.
Freshman
Samantha Hoerning (Farmingville, NY/Sachem East) led the Pioneers in the opening game as she tallied eight kills. Senior
Briona Enny (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) and junior
Lora Allen (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) combined for 17 digs, while freshman
Alaina Wickwire (Towanda, PA/Towanda) tallied seven digs. Allen also added 12 assists on the outing.
In the second match, junior
Laura Homer-Gunther (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) tallied a team-high seven kills. Once again,
Briona Enny (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) led the team in digs (13), while
Lora Allen (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) recorded 10 digs and added 15 assists. Sophomore
Brandi Blaszak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) totaled four kills and added four total blocks while
Samantha Hoerning (Farmingville, NY/Sachem East) also had four blocks.
The Pioneers wrap up their season with a 9-24 record. They will graduate three seniors including
Briona Enny (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury),
Chelsea Lauria (Erieville, NY/Cazenovia), and
Ashley Jones (Charlton, NY/Galway).
