Elmira, NY (11/22/14)- The Utica College women's hockey team fell to nationally ranked No. 2 Elmira College, 4-1, Saturday afternoon in ECAC West Conference action. Senior
Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) scored the lone goal for Utica.
Elmira jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 13:04 as Brooke Wilgosh netted her first of the year, assisted by Ashley Ryan and Ashton Hogan. The Pioneers evened the score with just under five minutes remaining in the second period as Steele-Norton scored her first of the year. Junior
Mackenzie Roy (Clinton, NY/Clinton) assisted on the play. The Soaring Eagles were able to regain the lead just over two minutes alter as Meghan Fonfara connected with Johanna Eidensten for her first of the year. Elmira added an insurance goal with just 1:03 remaining in the second period as Hogan netted a shorthanded goal for her seventh tally of the season. Hogan again found the back of the net at 14:34 of the third period to all but seal the victory.
Sophomore
Keira Goin (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Hotchkiss School) made 31 saves in the loss, while her counterpart, Kelcey Crawford made 19 saves for Elmira. The Soaring Eagles were 2-for-8 on the power play while Utica was held scoreless in six opportunities with the man advantage.
The teams will wrap up the series Sunday at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
