UTICA, NY – The Utica College men's hockey team returns to the ice on Thursday night for their final contest of a five game home stand as the Pioneers host Morrisville State on AmeriCU Jersey Night at 7 p.m.

HEADING INTO THE BREAK: Thursday's contest is the final game of the first semester for Utica before taking a 21 day break from game action … The Pioneers are currently 4-5-2 overall … UC has a 4-3-1 record on its home ice, an 0-2 mark on the road and they earned a tie at a neutral site (Syracuse University's Carrier Dome) against Oswego … Utica is unbeaten in four of its last five games … The Pioneers have an uphill battle in conference play in the second semester after starting the season with an 0-4-1 ledger in the ECAC West. 

LAST TIME OUT: (12/6//14) - The Utica College men's hockey team jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first 11:29 of the contest and never looked back as the Pioneers earned a convincing 5-1 victory over visiting Curry College at the Utica Memorial Auditorium on Saturday night …  Five different Pioneers registered two points on the evening including Easton Powers (South Lyon, MI/Port Huron (NAHL)) (one goal, one assist), Kevin Valenti (Queensbury, NY/Northern Cyclones (EHL)) (one goal, one assist), Louie Educate (Chicago, IL/Aberdeen (NAHL)) (one goal, one assist), Brett Szajner (Novi, MI/Amarillo (NAHL)) (one goal, one assist) and Brent Wold (Lac Du Bonnet, Manitoba/Dauphin (MJHL)) (two assists).

EDUCATE COMING ON STRONG: Former ECAC West Player of the Year Louie Educate (Chicago, IL/Aberdeen (NAHL)) has scored seven points in his last five outings … He currently leads the team and ranks third in the conference with 12 points (five goals, seven assists).

GROWING UP QUICK: Four of the Pioneers' top six scorers are in their first year playing at UC … Freshman Dalton Carter (Toledo, OH/Northern Cyclones (EHL)) ranks seventh nationally in points per game among defensemen with an average of 1.00 point per contest … He has three goals and eight assists this season … Sophomore Trent Samuels-Thomas (West Hartford, CT/Omaha (USHL)) has nine points (one goal, eight assists), while Brent Wold (Lac Du Bonnet, Manitoba/Dauphin (MJHL)) and Kevin Valenti (Queensbury, NY/Northern Cyclones (EHL)) each have four goals apiece for Utica. 

SENIOR LEADERSHIP: Senior assistant captain Justin Hogan (Val Therese, Ontario/Brooks Bandits (AJHL)) is tied for fifth in the conference with 11 points this season … He leads the team with nine assists … He has six points in his last five games. 

WELLS' STEPPING IN: Junior transfer goalie Dylan Wells (Nashville, TN/Bonnyville (AJHL)) stopped 47 shots and allowed two goals in 120:00 of action in a 1-1 weekend for the Pioneers … He did not allow an even strength goal all weekend … Wells currently ranks second in the ECAC West with a 2.19 goals against average … He has allowed just one goal per game in three consecutive games. 

POWER-PLAY UNIT: The Pioneers currently rank 14^th nationally after scoring on 14-of-51 power play chances this season (27.5%) … Brent Wold (Lac Du Bonnet, Manitoba/Dauphin (MJHL)) and Louie Educate (Chicago, IL/Aberdeen (NAHL)) each have three power-play goals this season.

SCOUTING MORRISVILLE: The Mustangs are coached by former Utica College student-athlete Kevin Krogel '07 … Morrisville is unbeaten in their last three outings, including a 3-2 overtime win over Williams to take the Skidmore Invitational Championship, and a 1-1 tie against Neumann on Friday … The Mustangs are led by sophomore Darren Young, who has 13 points, including a team-best 10 assists this year … Senior Robert Molibaro and freshman Layne Martin each have ten points, while sophomore Joe Santino leads the team with seven goals … Freshman Steven Dombrosky has earned the lion's share of the work in goal this season and he boasts a 3-4-2 overall record … However, junior Jakob Rasmussen has started two of the last three games and guided the Mustangs to a 1-1 tie against Neumann, stopping 33 total shots.
