Women's Hockey Takes on Oswego in Pivotal ECAC West Series

Utica, NY (2/13/14)- The Utica College women's hockey team takes on ECAC West foe, Oswego State in a home-and-home series this weekend.  On Saturday, the Pioneers host Oswego at 2:30 p.m. before both teams travel to Oswego for the series finale Sunday at 4 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: UC is coming off a sweep of Neumann University last weekend… Freshman Gabrielle Schnepp (Northville, MI/Belle Tire) had two goals and an assist on the weekend, while Megan Myers (Las Vegas, NV/LA Selects) had one goal and two assists… Senior Jennifer Hamel (Ithaca, NY/Northwood School) stopped 44-of-46 shots on the weekend.

NATIONAL POLLS: The Pioneers are ranked No. 8 in the most recent d3hockey.com national poll, released Monday… It marks the highest Utica has been ranked this season… UC is in the "receiving votes" category of the current USCHO.com rankings… The Pioneers were ranked tenth by USCHO.com on Jan. 20.

PLAYOFF PUSH: The Pioneers are currently fifth in the ECAC West Conference standings, just one point behind Oswego and Potsdam, who are currently tied for third place…  UC has four games left, all of which are ECAC West Conference games… Following this weekend's series, UC takes on Potsdam in a home-and-home set next weekend… The Pioneers have already locked up a spot in the conference tournament, their 12th postseason appearance in the last 13 years, however the remaining games determine the final conference standings. 

MYERS MOVING UP: Senior Megan Myers (Las Vegas, NV/LA Selects) is currently tied for second on the College's all-time points list with 134 points (71 goals, 63 assists) in 98 games played… This season, she leads the team in goals (16), assists (14), and points (30)… Her 1.43 points per game rank seventh nationally and second in the conference.

HELPING OUT: Freshman Gabrielle Schnepp (Northville, MI/Belle Tire) is second on the team with 23 points (12 goals, 11 assists)… She is also fifth nationally in rookie scoring (1.10 points per game)… Sophomore Morgan Reed (Fort Myers, FL/Cushing Academy) has 20 points, eight goals, 12 assists), while senior Vanessa Maines (Boxborough, MA/Boston Jr. Shamrocks) in fourth in scoring with 19 points (eight goals, 11 assists). 

SHUTTING THE DOOR: With two wins over the weekend, senior Jennifer Hamel (Ithaca, NY/Northwood School) moved into second place on the program's career win list…  Her 33 wins rank second all-time, just two behind 2010 graduate, Jill Doherty…  Hamel has a .907 save percentage, a 2.43 goals against average, and is 11-6 on the season.

SCOUTING OSWEGO: The Lakers are 14-6-1 overall, and sit in third place in the conference standings, just one point ahead of the Pioneers, with an 8-3-1 mark in the ECAC West… Oswego is led by seniors Olivia Boersen, Melissa Seamont, and Leslie Jarvis… Boersen has a team-high 14 points (six goals, eight assists), while Seamont and Jarvis each have 12 points.

AGAINST THE LAKERS: UC is 7-3 against Oswego in the last five years… Last season, both teams split, with each team winning on its home ice… UC topped Oswego 3-1 at home on Nov. 2, before falling 5-3 in Oswego the next day… Megan Myers (Las Vegas, NV/LA Selects) had two goals and an assist on the weekend.

LOOKING AHEAD: The Pioneers wrap up regular season play with a home-and-home series against Potsdam next weekend…  UC travels to Potsdam for a 3 p.m. face off on Saturday, with both teams coming to Utica for the finale on Sunday at 4 p.m.
