Women's Lacrosse Falls to Oswego in Season Opener

Box Score Utica, NY (3/1/14)- The Utica College women's lacrosse team dropped its season opener to visiting Oswego State, 10-6, Saturday afternoon at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.  Oswego used six unanswered goals to down the Pioneers.

Oswego jumped out to a two-goal lead in the first 2:18 of the game, however Utica fought back, scoring the next three.  Juniors Morgan DuPont (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) and Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) picked up where they left off last season, scoring Utica's first two goals.  Freshman Rebecca Plunkett (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) netted her first collegiate goal just over eight minutes into the game to give UC a 3-2 lead.

Kane added two more tallies assisted by Courtney Wheeler (Ava, NY/Rome Free Academy), and DuPont to give Utica a 5-4 lead at the half.  Plunkett added her second of the game just 41 seconds into the second half, assisted by Julia Primps (Ossining, NY/Ossining), however the Lakers scored the next six goals to capture the victory.

Emily Lange led all scorers with four goals, while Erannan Shattuck had two goals and four assists for Oswego.  Sophomore Erin Jacobsen had seven saves in her first collegiate start, while her counterpart, Nikki Greco had 16 saves in the win.

Utica returns to action Wednesday as it hosts Skidmore College.  Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
