Utica's Hertz Named Program's Fourth All-American

AHCA CCM All-Americans

Lewiston, ME (March 20, 2014) – Utica College men's hockey senior forward Trever Hertz (Jaffray, British Columbia/Quesnel Millionaires (BCHL)) became the fourth player in program-history to be named an American Hockey Coaches Association CCM Division III Men's Hockey All-American at the NCAA Championship's student-athlete banquet on Thursday night. Hertz was named to the East Region Second Team.

Hertz joins Jimmy Sokol (2005, 2nd Team), Tim Coffman  (2012, 3rd Team) and teammate Louie Educate (Chicago, IL/Aberdeen (NAHL)) (2013, 1st Team) as one of four Pioneers in program-history to earn All-American status. The Pioneers have now secured representation on the All-American team in three consecutive seasons.

Hertz, who was named the ECAC West Player of the Year on February 26th, averaged 1.00 points per game throughout the regular season (tied for eighth in the conference).  He also tied for third in the conference with 17 assists. He led the team with 25 total points (eight goals, 17 assists). 16 of his points came in conference play. His three game-winning goals tied for the team lead. He registered six multi-point games this season and he scored at least one point in each of the last eight regular season games for UC. He finished his illustrious career with 102 points in 104 games played and is just the third player in program-history to score over 100 points in a career (44 goals, 58 assists). Hertz scored at least one point in 18 of 27 games this past season.

He guided the Pioneers to 69 victories over the course of his four year career.  In 2012-2013 he paced Utica to a school-record 21 victories and the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, advancing as far the Frozen Four.

Hertz recently signed his first professional contract with the Mississippi Surge of the Southern Professional Hockey League following his collegiate career.  He has played in two games for the Surge and registered his first professional assist on March 16th.

UC, which finished its season ranked 13th in the USCHO.com national polls, wrapped up its 2013-14 campaign with a 16-7-4 overall record and won the ECAC West regular season title for the second consecutive season. The Pioneers also earned the right to host ECAC West Tournament Championship game for the first time since 2005. UC advanced to the conference tournament championship game for the third time in school-history.
