Utica, NY (3/26/14) - The Utica College women's lacrosse team will start its conference play at home on Friday against Stevens Institute of Technology and Saturday against Hartwick College. The opening faceoff for Friday's game will be at 4 p.m. and Saturday's contest will start at 1 p.m.

Last Time Out: The Pioneers are coming off a 19-8 road win against New England College last Friday… Junior Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) led all scorers with four goals, while teammates Courtney Wheeler (Ava, NY/Rome Free Academy), Colleen Dowling (Fairport, NY/Fairport) and Rebecca Plunkett (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) each had three goals… Junior Morgan DuPont (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) led the team with four assists… Sophomore goalie Erin Jacobson (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) had 10 saves.

Hot Streak: The Pioneers are currently 4-1 and are in the midst of a four-game winning streak… Over that span, UC has outscored its opponents 46-30…  Utica is also 2-1 at home this season. 

As a Team: In the Empire 8 conference, UC ranks second in assists per game (4.80), third in shots per game (29.60) and goals against average (8.00), and fourth in points per game (15.20) and shots on goal per game (20.60).

Hot Sticks: In the conference, Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) is third in goals per game (3.00), fourth in points per game (3.80) and sixth in shots per game (6.20)… Rebecca Plunkett (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) is second in shots per game (7.40), fourth in draw controls per game (3.80), while Morgan DuPont (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) ranks second in assists per game (2.20)… Erin Jacobson (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) is third in both goals against average (8.00) and save percentage (.506).

Assists Record: Coming into the season Morgan DuPont (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) was eighth all time at UC in assists (30)… With her 11 assists thus far, DuPont is now tied with Laura Keating for fifth all-time… She needs just two more assists to pass Julianne Schultheiss for fourth all-time … Schultheiss dished out 42 assists between the years of 2008-2011.    

Scouting The Ducks: Stevens (3-5) is coming to Utica after winning its first conference game (14-9) on the road at Hartwick College… Sophomore Erika Wilcox leads the team with 33 points (25 goals, eight assists)… Wilcox is ranked first in the conference in points per game (4.13) and second in goals per game (3.13)… As a team, the Ducks are ranked second in the conference in goals per game (12.25) and points per game (16.38)… UC is winless against Stevens in the last six years. 

Scouting the Hawks: Hartwick is coming to Utica after losing its first home conference game (9-14) to Stevens Institute of Technology… They are 4-4 to start the season… Freshman Lauren Rosenberg leads the team with 26 points (22 goals, four assists)… Rosenberg is ranked eighth in the conference in goals per game (2.75) and tenth in points per game (3.25)… As a team, the Hawks rank third in goals per game (11.00)… In the last 10 years, UC is 6-4 against Hartwick… The last time the Pioneers lost to the Hawks was on April 11, 2007 (11-13).  

Looking Ahead: The Pioneers will be back in action next weekend as they host a pair of home conference games Saturday against St. John Fisher and Sunday against Elmira. Both games will begin at 1 p.m.
