Box Score Utica, NY (3/5/14)- The Utica College women's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the young season Wednesday evening as it downed visiting Skidmore College, 7-5 at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.

Freshman Rebecca Plunkett (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) led the way for the Pioneers, scoring a career-high three goals, including two off free positions, as well as collecting five ground balls and four draw controls.  Junior Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) chipped in with two goals and added one assist to pace the Pioneers.  Kane and Plunkett now have five goals each through two games.

UC jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first half behind goals from Kane, Plunkett, and senior Julia Primps (Ossining, NY/Ossining).  However, the Lakers mounted a comeback in the final 30 minutes, behind freshman Tyler Phillips, who led all players with four goals and fired ten shots.  Despite scoring the game's final three goals, the Thoroughbreds were not able to complete the comeback as Utica held on for the victory.

Sophomore Courtney Wheeler (Ava, NY/Rome Free Academy) also scored for the Pioneers, while junior Morgan DuPont (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) had two assists.  Sophomore Erin Jacobson (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) made eight saves in her first career win, while her counterpart, Allie Sosinsky had five saves in the loss.

Utica (1-1) returns to action Saturday as it travels to Potsdam, NY for a non-conference match up against SUNY Potsdam.  Game time is scheduled for 12 p.m.
