Women's Lacrosse Moves to 8-3 with Win Over Alfred

Box Score Alfred, NY (4/12/14)- The Utica College women's lacrosse team moved its win streak to three games as it downed Alfred University 15-4 in Empire 8 Conference action Saturday afternoon.  Junior Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) led the way with five points for the Pioneers.

UC improves to 8-3 overall and 3-2 in the E8 Conference.  UC is now just one win shy of its single-season program record of nine wins that it reached one year ago.  Utica has now outscored its opponents 34-6 in the last two games.

The Pioneers got off to a quick start as they scored ten goals in the first half for the second straight outing.  Just 40 seconds into the game, junior Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) tallied her fifth of the year to give Utica a 1-0 lead.  Two minutes later, classmate Morgan DuPont (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) found the back of the net for her fifth of the season.  UC continued to roll as Steele-Norton added her second of the game and Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) netter three of her four goals of the day in the first half.  Patricia Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) also added two and Jackie Gould (Baldwinsville, NY/Baldwinsville) and Colleen Dowling (Fairport, NY/Fairport) each had one.

In the second half, Utica's top-three leading scorers went to work.  Freshman Rebecca Plunkett (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) scored two goals, her 30th and 31st of the season, as well as another from Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) to move her season total to 34.  DuPont, the team's assist-leader added her second goal of the game, while freshman Amanda Chruscicki (Utica, NY/Whitesboro) capped of the scoring with her third of the year.

DuPont, Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville), Julia Primps (Ossining, NY/Ossining), Jennifer Rogaski (Schenectady, NY/Colonie Central), and Vanessa Maines (Boxborough, MA/Acton-Boxborough Regional) each had one assist on the day.  Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) and sophomore Lisa Howden (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran) each had monster days at the faceoff circle as each totaled five draw controls.  Erin Jacobson (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) and Tewasherake Barnes (Akwesasne, NY/Salmon River) combined to allow just four goals in the win, while their counterpart, Taylor Tarajos, made eight saves in the loss.  Kaitlyn Button scored all four goals for the Saxons, who drop to 1-6 overall and are winless in the conference with a 0-3 record.

The Pioneers return to action Sunday as they travel to Nazareth for a big Empire 8 match up against the Golden Flyers.  Game time is set for 1 p.m.
