Box Score Ithaca, NY (4/24/14)- The Utica College women's lacrosse team had a rough go as it fell to host and nationally ranked No. 16 Ithaca College 15-0 in Empire 8 Conference action Thursday afternoon.
The Bombers, who already clinched the number one seed and hosting rights for the Empire 8 Tournament, stretch their undefeated mark in league play to 7-0 and move to 11-5 overall. Utica drops to 9-5 in the Empire 8 and finishes with a 3-4 record in conference play, eliminating the Pioneers from playoff contention.
Ithaca netted ten first half goals and added five more in the second half to down UC. Six different players scored for Ithaca including E8 leader Ally Runyon and Riley Marion, who had five goals each.
The Pioneers were awarded five free position shots, but were held scoreless on each attempt as Ithaca goalies Emily Ross and Brittany Romano combined for an eight-save shutout. Freshman
Rebecca Plunkett (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) had a team-high four shots and added one ground ball, while
Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) had three shots, three ground balls, one caused turnover and four draw controls. Sophomore
Erin Jacobson (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) made a game-high nine saves in net for Utica.
The Pioneers return to action Saturday as they continue their search for their school-record-breaking tenth win of the season at Houghton College. Game time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
