Utica, NY (4-8-140 - The Utica College men's tennis team opens up a stretch of four matches in five days Wednesday as it welcomes Empire 8 rival Nazareth College … The contest is set to start at 3:30 p.m. at the Utica College Tennis Courts.

The Pioneers: Utica is currently 1-4 overall including a 0-2 mark in the Empire 8 Conference … The Pioneers have dropped four straight and look to get back on track Wednesday against the Golden Flyers … UC's lone win came back in the Fall on Oct. 9^th versus Cazenovia College, on the road.

Home-Opener: UC battled non-conference rival Oswego State last Thursday in its season-opener however fell short, 5-4, at the UC Tennis Courts … Freshman Ignacio Mascolo registered his first career victory in his collegiate debut as he downed Oswego's ace Ben Weiss, 7-5 and 7-5, in the No. 1 spot of singles play … Utica won three out of five in singles competition as sophomore's Raphael Warnon and Matt Rogers recorded wins … Warnon won in three sets (6-4, 4-6, 6-3) while Rogers took Oswego's No. 4 down in two (6-1, 6-4) …  The duo teamed up for the Pioneers lone win in doubles play by a score of 8-3.

Golden Flyers Scouting Report: Naz is currently 1-8 overall on the season including a 1-1 ledger in the Empire 8 … The Golden Flyers recently won their first contest on Sunday in a battle with Elmira winning 6-3 to snap an eight game slide … Nazareth will host Ithaca Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Back on the Court: Following Wednesday's contest, Utica will host Houghton College on Friday in a make-up match originally scheduled for April 4^th … Houghton is currently 1-6 on the season and has dropped two straight two Empire 8 opponents Alfred and Stevens.

Looking Ahead: After the Pioneers two game stint at the friendly confines, they hit the road over the weekend for back-to-back matches at Alfred University and the Sage Colleges … Utica travels to Alfred on Saturday to face the Saxons before heading to Troy, NY to challenge the Sage Gators … Both matches are set for 1 p.m.
