Troy, NY (May 15, 2014) –  Three Pioneers  including senior Katie Day (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) and sophomore Sarah Wiatr (Poland, NY/West Canada Valley), of the women's team, and freshman Rayshawn Scott, of the men's, shattered their own school-records Thursday on day one of the 2014 Division III ECAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

The competition was held at the Ned Harkness Track & Field and hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute of Technology.  After eight events scored on day one, the women are currently in fifth place, out of 37 teams, with 14 points from Wiatr and Day while the men sit in 20th behind Scott's five points.

Waitr led the women's squad as she broke her own program-record (11.89 meters) in the triple jump by 11 inches with a leap of 12.00 meters. She tallied eight points with her second place finish and currently pushed up into eighth place in the country.

Day shattered her own school-record in the 3000 steeplechase and moved in 20th nationally.  She clocked a record time of 11:02.38, cracking her old record by .14, as she tallied an impressive third place finish and collected six points for the women.

Scott leaped to a fourth place finish in the men's triple jump with his record breaking mark of 14.49 meters.  He won a tie breaker with a soar of 14.29 meters to earn sole place of fourth and garner the men's only five points of day one.

Utica is right back in action Friday morning for the final day of the ECAC Championships at RPI.  Friday's field events will start at 10 a.m. while the track events will kick off at 12 p.m.
