Box Score Oneonta, NY (8/30/14)- The Utica College field hockey team picked up where it left off last season as it cruised to a 5-1 victory against St. Lawrence University at the Oneonta State Invitational Saturday afternoon. Senior All-American
Hannah Mackey (Locke, NY/Moravia Central) led the way with three goals for UC.
The Pioneers jumped out to a four-goal lead in the first half behind Mackey's three tallies as well as a goal from classmate
Chasity Eckert (Afton, NY/Afton Central). Eckert and
Alaina Stojkovski (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) also added one assist each on the day. Senior
Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) scored the lone Utica goal in the second half, before St. Lawrence's Olivia White found the back of the net in the final seven minutes to spoil the shutout.
Junior
Kells Casey (Sandwich, MA/Kimball Union Academy) made four saves and did not allow a goal in nearly 54 minutes of work, while freshman
Samantha Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) closed out the afternoon. Kim Haab and Julia Hudson combined for seven saves. Mackey is now five points behind Steele-Norton's school record of 130 career points.
The Pioneers return to action Sunday as they take on the College of Wooster in non-conference action. Game time is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at Oneonta.
