Box Score Oneonta, NY (9/23/14)- The Utica College volleyball team fell to host Hartwick College, 3-0 Tuesday evening in Empire 8 Conference action. 
 
Despite suffering a 25-12 loss in the first set, the Pioneers battled back to narrowly fall 25-22 and 28-26 in the final two sets. Sophomore Brandi Blaszak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) led the team with eight kills and added six digs on the evening.  Junior Laura Homer-Gunther (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) added five kills while Alaina Wickwire (Towanda, PA/Towanda) and Michaline Rubas (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) each had three kills.  Junior Lora Allen (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) aided the Utica offense with 19 assists, and senior Briona Enny (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) had a team-high 21 digs to pace the defense. 
 
The Pioneers return to action this weekend as they travel across town to the Wildcat Classic, hosted by SUNYIT.  UC takes on Alfred State Friday at 7 p.m. and will face SUNYIT Saturday at 11 a.m. followed by Elmira at 1 p.m.
