Women's Hockey Uses Three Unanswered Goals to Down Canton

Canton, NY (1/6/15)- Three different players scored as the Utica College women's hockey team topped host SUNY Canton 3-1 in non-conference action Tuesday evening.

With the win, UC is now unbeaten in its last five games and holds a 5-2-2 overall record.  The Pioneers face a tough test on Friday as they travel to Northfield, VT to take on nationally ranked No. 3 Norwich University.  Game time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

Canton opened the scoring just 3:28 into the game as Lora Ardoin netted her team-leading sixth goal of the season.  The Pioneers rebounded just three minutes later as freshman Taylor Osowski (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects) netted her first collegiate goal, assisted by Victoria Pelton (Sterling Heights, MI/Belle Tire) and Emily Coope (Phoenix, AZ/Colorado Tigers).  The Pioneers added an insurance tally at 16:30 as senior Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) netted her fifth of the year.  Senior Nikki Kieffer (Rome, NY/Lysander Lightning) and junior Morgan Reed (Fort Myers, FL/Cushing Academy) assisted on the play.

Following a scoreless second period, UC capped off the scoring at 6:40 of the third period as Coope netted her second of the season off assists from Osowski and Pelton.  Sophomore Keira Goin (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Hotchkiss School) stopped 15 shots, while her counterpart, Rebecca DiNardo made 29 saves in the loss.
