UTICA, NY- The Utica College field hockey team will be back in action on Saturday as it travels to Rochester, NY for a Empire 8 Conference matchup against conference rival, St. John Fisher College… Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers had a tough time in their last game on Sunday against nationally ranked No. 11 Skidmore College as they lost 8-0… The loss came after a 4-0 win over Houghton in Empire 8 Conference play on Saturday.
LEADING THE WAY: UC has three players with two or more goals… Freshman
Rylee Meelan (Clinton, NY/Clinton) has led the way for the Pioneers with five goals, which is good for fifth in the conference, while
Meghan McCormick (Ava, NY/RFA) has three, and
Rebecca Kauffman (Mount Joy, PA/Linden Hall) has two…
Colleen Dowling (Fairport, NY/Fairport) has been the set up player for UC as she leads the team and is fourth in the conference with four assists.
ROCK IN NET: Senior goalkeeper
Kells Casey (Sandwich, MA/Kimball Union Academy) has been great in net for the Pioneers, as she is first in the conference in saves (82) and is averaging 8.20 saves per game, which is good for third in the conference.
SCOUTING ST. JOHN FISHER: The Cardinals are 6-3 overall (3-0 Empire 8) and have won five of their last six games… 2014 Empire 8 Rookie of the Year Emily Markarian has led the way for Fisher with eight goals on the season, followed by Elizabeth Cusack and Lauren Fazio who have five goals each.
RECENT YEARS AGAINST FISHER: The Pioneers have won their last four games against St. John Fisher dating back to 2011, including two victories over the Cardinals in the last two Empire 8 Conference Championship matches.
