Men's Soccer Faces Tough Test Against #16 Stevens

UTICA, NY- The Utica College men's soccer team will host Empire 8 Conference opponent Stevens Institute of Technology on Friday. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers defeated nonconference opponent SUNY Canton 4-2 on Tuesday to improve to 5-11 overall … Utica jumped out to a quick start when Peyton LaReaux (Utica, NY/T.R. Proctor) lobbed one over the keeper off of a nice pass from Raine Owen in the 21st minute … Six minutes later Shane Ruffing (Rochester, NY/Westborough) made it 2-0 … Canton finally got on the board in the 29th minute off of a chip shot … At half the score was 3-1 after Ruffing put in his record tying second goal … Each team tallied one goal in the second half … Utica struck first in the 48th minute when LaReaux hit a laser into the back of the net … The Kangaroos made it interesting with their goal in the 75 minute but couldn't net another goal.

RUFFING CLOSE TO BREAKING ANOTHER RECORD: Ruffing's two goals in Tuesdays game tied him for first all-time in program history with 74 career points (32 goals, 10 assists)… With one more point, Ruffing would surpass Evan Dufault '07 as the college's all-time leading scorer… Ruffing already passed Dufault in career goals earlier in the season to become the all-time goals leader in program history… Ruffing currently leads the team with 22 points off of nine goals and four assists … Ruffing's nine goals are also good for a tie for fourth in the conference.

BIG TIME PERFOMANCE: Peyton LaReaux (Utica, NY/T.R. Proctor) scored a career-high six points on two goals and two assist… LaReaux now has eight points off of three goals and two assists this year … His six point effort on Tuesday is tied for the third-most points scored in a single game in program-history

IN THE NET: Sophomore Matthew Milograno (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) has now played in seven games this season, and has started six of those games, including the last three… Milograno currently has 33 saves on the season, with a save percentage of .717… Nick Hallett (Adams, NY/South Jefferson CSD) has played and started in 10 games this season, saving 52 shots, with a save percentage of .722.

TEAM EFFORT: UC has 16 different players that have recorded at least one point this season… Patrick Claffey (Burlington, CT/Lewis Mills) is fourth on the team with six points off of two goals and two assists … Jordan Senay (Lockport, NY/Lockport) and Raine Owens (Pine Plains, NY/Stissing Mt. ) each have four points off of one goal and two assists … Justin Schray (Oxford, NY/Oxford), Matt Beljan (Bedminster, PA/Christopher Dock), and Marcel Dupuis (Hannacroix, NY/Greenville) all have three points off of one goal and one assist.

SCOUTING STEVENS: The Ducks have had a very successful season so far, as they have an overall record of 11-2-2… They are currently ranked second in the Empire 8 Conference, as they have a conference record of 3-0-2… Leading the way for Stevens is Carson Pryor who is currently second in the conference with 12 goals… Colin Phillips has also been a big part of the Ducks success as he has tallied nine goals and six assists.

HEAD TO HEAD AGAINST STEVENS: Both UC and Stevens have had more offense come in the first half than the second half this season… Stevens has had 19 of its 35 goals come in the first half, along with 128 first half shots, compared to just 98 shots in the second half… The Pioneers have been the same way as they have 16 first half goals this season compared to 11 second half goals… They also have taken 105 shots in the first half, and 99 in the second half… The Pioneers will look to get their first ever win against Stevens on Saturday as they are 0-11 all-time against the Ducks dating back to 2007.

LOOKING AHEAD: After the matchup with Stevens, UC will travel to Houghton College for an Empire 8 contest on Saturday Oct. 31 for a 2 p.m. game.
