Utica Splits in Final E8 Pod

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ALFRED, NY- The Utica College volleyball team split in conference action Saturday at the Empire 8 pod, hosted by Alfred University.  The Pioneers dropped the first game 3-0 to Nazareth College, before defeating Alfred 3-1.
 
The Pioneers (6-25) finish tied for sixth place in the Empire 8 Conference standings with a 2-6 record.  UC will wrap up its 2015 season next weekend as it travels to Houghton, NY for the Houghton Tournament.  Utica will kick off the weekend Friday as it faces SUNY Canton.  Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
 
Utica 0, Nazareth 3- Game One Final
Junior Brandi Blaszak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) led the Pioneers with seven kills, while Laura Homer-Gunther (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) tallied five kills and Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) and Abigail Mosenthin (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) each had three kills.
 
Senior Lora Allen (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) led Utica with 21 assists, while classmate Alexis Lyon (Prospect, NY/Holland Patent) had a team-best 11 digs.  Blaszak also chipped in on the defensive end with 10 digs.  Freshman Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) and Allen combined for 18 digs on the day.
 
Utica 3, Alfred 1- Game Two Final
Junior Brandi Blaszak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) led the Pioneers in three statistical categories, including kills (12), aces (two), and blocks (six) to pace Utica to its second conference victory of the season.  Freshman Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) and senior Laura Homer-Gunther (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) also contributed on the offensive end as they combined for 15 kills.
 
Senior Lora Allen (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) collected 32 assists, while classmate Alexis Lyon (Prospect, NY/Holland Patent) had a team-best 17 digs.  Allen and Voss also chipped in on the defense with 13 digs apiece.  Sophomore Abigail Mosenthin (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) had a strong showing as she totaled five kills and added 12 digs.
