HOUGHTON, NY- The Utica College volleyball team capped its 2015 season on Saturday at the Houghton College Invitational. The Pioneers lost their opener 3-1 to host Houghton, before falling 3-0 in their final contest of the season against Oberlein. Senior
Laura Homer-Gunther (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) combined for 16 kills in her final two games in the blue and orange.
The Pioneers will bid farewell to seniors
Lora Allen (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville),
Alexis Lyon (Prospect, NY/Holland Patent) and Homer-Gunther. Allen, who posted 43 assists on the day, will graduate as the College's all-time assists leader.
UC's
Brandi Blaszak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) added 13 kills over the course of two games, while Lyon added 39 digs.
The Pioneers fought hard in game one against the Highlanders and earned a 25-23 second set victory, but the home team ultimately took home the 3-1 win (25-21, 23-25, 25-20, 25-16).
Homer-Gunther led UC with 11 kills against Houghton, while Brandi Blazek added 10 kills and four aces.
Lora Allen (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) posted 29 assists in game one.
The Pioneers lost game two in straight sets (25-14, 25-18, 25-16). Homer-Gunther led the way again with five kills, while
Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) added three kills and two blocks.
UC wraps up its season with a 6-29 overall record including a 2-6 mark in the Empire 8 Conference.
